The Eiffel Tower

Located in Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower has become one of the world's most recognizable structures of all time. With almost 700 proposals for the design of the Tower, The Prince of Wales (later known as King Edward VII of England) had his work cut out. One design, however, stood out the most. A design by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (with a little help from Maurice Koechlin, Emile Nouguier and Stephen Sauvestre) was chosen and built in 1889 for the Paris Exposition. When completed it measured 987ft tall (1,052ft including antenna) and weighed almost 7,000 tons.
Glimpses of the Tower can be seen all over Paris.
